I have an affinity for ambience, a deep love of words, and an untamable desire to depict my life and the thoughts swimming about in my head through pictures. Red lipstick, little odds and ends, and an unveiling love for the Universe have sparked a metamorphosis nowhere near its completion.

Oh, and my name is Christy. Nice to meet you!

If I introduce a movie to you, and we watch it together, I’ll be spending at least 99.9% of the time watching you to make sure you are responding correctly to the film.

Most heterosexual intercourse under patriarchy, is rape

radfeminist:

I believe that most heterosexual intercourse i.e. PIV or penis in vagina sex, under patriarchy, is effectively rape. This sounds a controversial and extreme position. However, it perhaps appears less so when we consider the evidence.

Most women are educated into the idea that sex with a man = PIV. So sex without Penis in Vagina, is not full sex or not really sex. I, along with many women, was taught that I could choose whether or not to have sex with a man, but if I did, that would involve PIV.

I was taught that sex = PIV, through sex education classes, Hollywood films and the idea of virginity. All 3 present PIV as real sex, and everything else as foreplay or extras.

In addition, we have the existence of compulsory heterosexuality. This phrase describes how all of us are educated, forced or cajoled as children and teenagers into being heterosexual. At the extreme end there is forced marriage and child brides. But even when we think we have chosen heterosexuality, the reality is that our whole upbringing constantly told us as girls that we are heterosexual and that we will have a relationship with a man.

This is done by asking us as young girls if we have a boyfriend in a teasing manner, our mothers giving us advice about boyfriends before we are dating, books and films aimed at children where a girl or woman has a boyfriend, playing at weddings, etc. Girls are constantly told they are heterosexual and that they will have boyfriends.

So as women we have been often been educated or cajoled into being heterosexual. We are taught that we must have a male partner. And when we have, we are told that if we want sex, we must have PIV.

So can women really be said to consent under patriarchy to PIV sex? And if they don’t meaningfully consent, would you call that rape?

I don’t know what planet you live on, but yes, women are capable of consenting to PIV sex. For the love of fuck…

Jerk Geniuses — Feminist Fiction

Is anyone else sick of the jerk genius?

You know the one. He’s unprofessional, lazy, selfish and rude, and even makes frequent sexist and racist remarks against the people around him, but that’s OK, because he’s a genius. He’s the best doctor/detective/scientist around, so everyone will put up with his jerkitude. Respect for others is the foolish pastime of the less intelligent.

We’re clearly meant to admire these (exclusively male) characters, or at least be amused by their social ineptitude. Their dismissive attitude to others, and especially their sexist jokes to others, are aspirations. They’re geniuses, observant and intelligent. They are just telling it like it is!

Which is one of the reasons I really love Sherlock Holmes in new CBS drama, Elementary. Yes, he’s a genius, and yes, he’s kind of a jerk at times. But he isn’t allowed to get away with it. His rudeness, his laziness… these are clearly character flaws, and his (female!) partner isn’t afraid to call him on his nonsense. And in return, he says things he shouldn’t, but he also respects her, he listens to her, and he even apologizes for things that he does. He isn’t a genius running rampant in the city, above the concerns of all the other silly humans. He’s an intelligent, observant, but flawed human, and he has to follow the same laws of decency as the rest of us.

Not only does Elementary modernize the story by partnering Sherlock with an Asian-American woman, it also allows them to actually be partners, with different strengths and weaknesses, different knowledge bases, and a complete unwillingness to take the other’s crap.

Anderson: On the red carpet for the Oscars last year you changed your look… kind of and it seemed to flip people out. People were writing about this, blogging about this. And Gabby at the Olympics recently, when she did really well I saw people commenting about her hair and stuff. I just thought it really odd that people notice this so much. Do you find it strange that people comment on how you appear so much?

you the realest nigga here if viola holds her breath.

Omg look at how uncomfortable they are next to her… they are all leaning Away from her and in defensive postures. LAwdd…Even the guy. His posture is open but its STILL a defensive one.
SMH. Its amazing how white america can be so uncomfortable wit the discussion of blackness and something as little as the topic of hair.

White people though

Look at how they all started leaning away from her….omg and that last group shot..they don’t even know what to do with life.

I never noticed that before. Ugh that makes my stomach hurt.

Do they really hate us so much?

This looks a lot like people moving back just a bit to give her personal space and so they can see her to listen to what she is saying. Are they supposed to be group-hugging? Jesus.

buffonery: the truth about killing:

buffonery:

you can tell me that men are the killers, not their guns. i believe you.

but if you try to tell me that a man with a knife instead of a gun would have been able to kill eighteen elementary school children this morning:…

I mean, yeah. Your argument is kind of obvious. Guns are more effective than knives, so of course people wanting to inflict real damage are going to use guns more often. I’m just saying that you posted that at an awkward time. Regardless, though, it is the wielder of the gun who is the killer. We don’t put guns in jail for killing people. They are just machines doing what they were made for. Not to say that guns don’t kill people. They do, but not of their own volition. They are a mechanism, an effective one, by which killing is seen through. So, yes. Guns do kill people, but why is that surprising?

Kind of awkward that you say that, but a man in China stabbed 22 school children today.
